The
Director:
Elsie
Haas has a particular interest in the question of projected
images of "developing worlds". During her career, she
has written and produced many documentaries characterized by her
interest in the socio-political reality and culture of the peoples
concerned. Zatrap (The Trap), her first documentary, was shot in
Martinique in Creole and French in 1981. The description of the
participants' lives reveals the traces of colonial heritage in
contemporary Martinican society. Elsie has produced several
documentaries in Europe, in Africa and in Haiti, always aiming to
expose realities with which the audience does not immediately
identify. Her work is characterized by this desire to reveal
similarities and links that promote communication and
understanding.
